Spiced Apple Cider (Hot or Cold)

Hot or cold, spiked or virgin, this spiced apple cider is a great alternative to coffee or cocktails. Just warm the juices, add whole spices, simmer and serve with extra cinnamon sticks.

Ingredients

  • 2 large bottles Martinelli Apple Cider (100 oz/ 3 liters)
  • 1/2 bottle cranberry juice (32 oz / 1 liter)
  • 1/2 can frozen orange juice concentrate (6 oz/ 177 ml)
  • 4 cinnamon sticks (plus extra to serve in each cup of cider)
  • 1 T whole cloves (7 gm)
  • 3 whole star anise
  • spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps (optional)
  • (about 1 1/2 oz per 8 oz glass or 45 ml per 240 ml)

Instructions

  1. Use a large percolator type coffee maker or just a large pot.
  2. In a coffee maker, pour juices and concentrate in the bottom of the pot and put all the spices in the top part. Turn on coffee maker and allow to heat through before serving.
  3. In a large deep pot, combine juices, concentrate and spices and simmer gently until cider boils.
  4. Remove spices and ladle cider into glasses.
  5. Makes 16 or more 8 oz/240 ml servings.
  6. Alcoholic version: Add a shot of spiced rum or cinnamon schnapps to each cup of cider before serving.
  7. Serve hot or iced with a cinnamon stick.
